Models for the behavior of boron carbide in extreme dynamic environments

چکیده

We describe models for the behavior of hot-pressed boron carbide that is subjected to extreme dynamic environments such as ballistic impact. first identify deformation and failure mechanisms are observed in under conditions, then review physics-based each these integration into a single continuum model material. Atomistic modeling relates composition stoichiometry amorphization threshold, while mesoscale processing-induced defect distribution fracture threshold. The demonstrate relative importance strongly dependent on geometry impact with volume fraction amorphized material being unlikely be significant until very high velocities (~3 km/s) reached geometries ball plates. These connections physics thus provide guidelines design improved materials applications.
